What motorcycle licences are available in Geneva?

In Geneva, you can obtain the AM licence (scooter up to 50cc, from age 15), the A1 licence (motorcycle up to 125cc and 11kW, from age 16), the A2 licence (motorcycle up to 35kW, from age 18), and the A licence (all engine sizes, from age 24, or 20 with an A2 upgrade). Each category requires a mandatory basic training course before the practical test.

How much does the 12h motorcycle basic training cost in Geneva?

At NonStop Drive, the mandatory 12h basic training starts from CHF 300 for A1 and A categories. The price may vary slightly depending on the date. Payment is by TWINT or cash, with no upfront payment required.

What is the difference between the 4h and 12h motorcycle basic training?

The 12h course is for anyone wishing to obtain an A or A1 licence for the first time. It is spread over 3 days of 4 hours each. The 4h course is an upgrade course for A1 licence holders wishing to obtain category A: it consolidates existing skills in a single day for CHF 120.

Is my learner's licence extended after the basic training?

Yes. After completing your mandatory basic training (4h or 12h), you must visit the cantonal road traffic office with your certificate. Your learner's licence will then be extended by 12 months, allowing you to register for the practical test.

Can I go straight for the A licence without getting an A1 first?

Yes. You can go directly for the A licence (all engine sizes) from the age of 24. If you are 20 and have held an A2 licence for at least 2 years, you can also access the A licence via the A2-to-A upgrade (4h basic training).

Can I take my A1 or A test on a scooter?

Yes, provided the scooter meets the requirements of the target category (engine size and power output). NonStop Drive also offers introductory lessons with motorcycle or scooter hire included.

How many participants are in your motorcycle basic training sessions?

Our motorcycle basic training sessions have a maximum of 6 participants. This small group format ensures personalised feedback, more individual practice time, and progress tailored to each learner's pace.

What documents do I need to bring to the motorcycle basic training?

You must bring your valid learner's licence (category A1, A or AM depending on the course) and a valid identity document (passport, identity card or residence permit). Failure to bring your learner's licence may result in exclusion from the course without a refund.
